AMURTEL Family’s renovation project on TV – Kanal D!

familia amurtel kanald

The AMURTEL Family children’s home in Panatau is in desperate need of repainting and renovation, after years of wear and tear.  I was so happy that Kanal D came to the home to make a piece about our story, and I hope it helps to attract the support that is needed to keep the children warm, safe and happy for years to come!  You can watch the video from the Kanal D archives here.

You can also contribute and make the campaign a success – already it is more than 50% funded! Here is the crowdfunding site link.

Three stories included in “Stories to Light the Night”

stories to light the night

Three of the stories I wrote for our AMURT “Pathways to Education” project with Syrian refugee children in Lebanon were published in Susan Perrow’s latest collection of therapeutic stories “Stories to Light the Night”.

It is really such an important collection. Trauma, loss and grief are a part of being human, and as much as we want to protect children, many also endure these experiences. Whether the loss of a beloved pet, or grandparent, or the trauma of war or natural disaster, children need empathic support. The healing and transformational power of metaphor and story cannot be underestimated.

Living the Romanian dream!

Our organic farm in Buzau county Romania gets a lot of attention as it has a very special story – growing vegetables not only as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture project) for a consumer group in Bucharest and Buzau, but also for the children at the AMURTEL Family. The media loves it that an American is embodying the popular Romanian dream of having a farm in the village. Indeed, the traditional life of the Romanian village I believe is one of the hidden treasures of this beautiful country, and it is no wonder that everyone dreams of the rural countryside with so much romanticism.

In reality – I do spend a lot of time in the city, directing AMURTEL’s activities, but I just love my escapes to the farm and children’s home as often as possible.

Here are two pieces from this season:

On TV for a “Hero of the Day” program

Didi Devapriya inger

The title was “Didi A. Devapriya, guardian angel for many children”….while I feel it is an exaggeration, it was an honor to be invited to the program, and I am very grateful for the opportunity and their kind words. Hopefully more people choose to support the distance adoption program for the AMURTEL Family home!

You can find the video of the whole TV show, and the lovely article they wrote here.

Singing kiirtan with Loredana Groza

By serendipity – or rather the surprising Grace of the Cosmic Dance…I was invited at the last minute to a program at the Indian Embassy in Bucharest.  Loredana Groza, a famous Romanian singer was one of the guests of honor.  We ended up singing a kiirtan with Baba Nam Kevalam (a mantra that means “I am only singing to my Beloved”) and Loredana, with her warm charisma – involved all of the members in the audience in singing the mantra into the microphone. It was an unexpected moment that created a joyful and sweet atmosphere:

The program was organised in order to launch a beautiful book about yoga that has been translated in Braille. The embassy generously donated copies of the book to the Association for the Visually Impaired of Romania – I happen to know the president from a training that we took together about social enterprise, so it was a pleasure to reconnect with him as well.

Here is the entire news story that appeared on television, for those of you that can understand (or guess at) Romanian!
